As of 1 June 2026, the Republic of Moldova has become the 40th member state of the European Patent Organisation, following its accession to the European Patent Convention. From that date, European and international patent applications designating Europe automatically cover Moldova, further expanding the territorial reach of the European patent system.

For the Republic of Moldova as a former validation state, the validation system remains applicable to European and international patent applications filed before 1 June 2026, to divisional applications derived from earlier applications with a filing date before that date, and to European patents granted on the basis of such applications.
